WHO ARE AND WHAT WE STAND FOR

The International Project Monitoring Company Limited (IPMC) is Nigeria’s first independent ESG rating institution focused on objective, transparent, and data-driven assessments of corporate sustainability performance.

We rate companies based on how well they manage Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) issues that affect long-term value creation, stakeholder trust, and financial stability. Our methodology combines quantitative metrics, qualitative insights, and evidence validation to deliver investor-grade ESG ratings comparable with leading global standards.

IPMC’s ESG Ratings framework is built on three pillars: data integrity, methodological transparency, and sector relevance. Each rating reflects verified disclosures, assured data, and measurable performance outcomes. We assess companies across multiple dimensions, including climate risk management, resource efficiency, labour practices, governance structure, ethics, and disclosure maturity.

Our rating model applies a AAA–D scale, where each grade represents a company’s ESG maturity level from advanced sustainability integration to foundational compliance. This scale allows investors, regulators, and corporate leaders to understand how companies perform relative to peers and to global expectations.

Our assessments are designed for comparability and reproducibility. Each rating is supported by a structured evidence review, sector-specific weighting, and consistency checks to ensure fair and balanced outcomes. We use a multi-layered assurance process that aligns with international disclosure principles such as IFRS S1/S2 and ISSB, ensuring our outputs meet investor-grade standards for data credibility.

Unlike general sustainability reports or consulting outputs, IPMC’s ESG Ratings are independent evaluations. We do not advise companies on how to improve their ratings, ensuring full neutrality and integrity in every assessment. Our role is to measure, benchmark, and report ESG performance not to influence it.

Through our work, we aim to strengthen ESG accountability and market transparency in Nigeria and across Africa. Our ratings enable investors and development institutions to evaluate risk-adjusted returns, help regulators identify disclosure gaps, and guide companies toward better governance and sustainability practices.

Each annual ESG Ratings Report provides sector-level insights, national benchmarks, and comparative performance data. It highlights material issues, regulatory progress, and emerging sustainability trends across industries, transforming ESG data into actionable intelligence for policy and investment decisions.

IPMC’s long-term vision is to become Africa’s trusted reference point for ESG performance measurement, creating a transparent and comparable sustainability index that attracts international capital and reinforces Nigeria’s role in the global sustainable finance ecosystem.
